Does anybody think the DirecTV "no wires" marionette people commercials are actually funny?

I keep seeing these ads over and over again, and I just want them to go away.  A lot of adjectives come to mind.  Weird.  Creepy.  Disturbing.  But funny?  No.

And here's what I don't get.  The guy is married to a freak puppet lady (commercial #1), and the two of them spawned some mutant puppet boy kid (commercial #2).  In the first ad the guy makes a point not to say to his buddy that wires are ugly, because he's worried his wife will hear.  But in the second ad the monster child says "I heard you tell mom that wires are ugly."  That just makes no sense.  Come on DirecTV, if you're going to force feed me with these bizarre commercials, at least have them be consistent with each other...

UPDATE: I've come across a similar/like-minded blog written by someone with a lot more time to delve into this subject...

50 Questions About The Marionette Family In Those Weird DirecTV Commercials

  1. Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I coldn't seem to contact the TV company to tell them how offensiveI find their puppet commercial. It's out and oput offensive to both women and children, while it place the (husband-father) in some "superior-status". If this is part of their philosophy I encourage all women to never sign up with them..Somewhere down the line it will show its Ugly biased disgusting head.

  2. These commercials are NOT funny but are offensive. I'm not sure why the male is not a puppet anymore than I am sure why DirecTV ad agency had anyone at all as a puppet. Perhaps it's time for a social network campaign.

  3. I can't believe you two find puppets offensive, people these days.

  4. I do not find the puppet offensive but the suggestive material of the wife is inappropriate and awkward for my 9 and 11 year old children.

  5. There are FAR more inappropriate commercials on television. The "wife puppet" is showing no more skin than a weight watchers commercial or one depicting a woman running down the beach in her bikini. In fact, as I am writing this, a new Head & Shoulders shampoo commercial came on and had a woman showing PLENTY of skin in the shower. As for the "wife puppet" asking the husband if he "like what he sees"? Sure, this could be considered "suggestive" at first, as the viewer is probably meant to expect something sexual to be displayed. Instead, the "wife puppet" further illustrates the ugliness of wires, as she clumsily dances around in some sort of tragic jazz dance number. -----Funny? Maybe not. Silly? Original? Imaginative? Attention grabbing? All of the above. Personally, I have a weird sense of humor as it stands, so I think they're pretty funny. I would really like to know how they made them. But offensive? Disturbing? Suggestive? Not at all. Especially when compared to some of the other commercials that are on TV today. (I mean think about it, there is a Herbal Essence shampoo commercial that shows a woman having an orgasm in the shower. Have you seen some of the Skittles commercials lately? What about Old Spice? Wow. Now THOSE are disturbing.) To be honest, the first time I saw these DirectTV commercials was with a friend and her 12-year-old son. He laughs every time the "puppet boy" gets stuck in the ceiling fan. No, I do not feel the urge to cover his eyes when the marionette wife takes off her bathrobe showing a négligée that reveals no more skin than your average woman wears to the mall. I'm sorry you were offended. But don't ruin it for the rest of us. Maybe you should attend a puppet-show with me sometime...don't worry, it'll be fun.
