Red Sox likely need to go 48-25 to make the playoffs

The "second half" of the MLB season starts tonight.  When the Red Sox started playing better ball a few weeks ago, I came to the conclusion that if they got within five games of the division lead by the All-Star break they'd have a chance.  Well they did, but then they dropped two of three to New York to fall 6.5 back.

The Yankees are leading the A.L. East with a 48-40 record, good for a .545 winning percentage that puts them on pace for 88 wins.  Just to be safe, I'll say 90 is what'll take to make the playoffs (the Wild Card leading Twins, 49-40, and Astros, 49-42, ate both within half a game of New York).

Boston is 42-47 with 73 games remaining.  To finish with 90 victories, the Sox will have to go 48-25 from here on out.  Unlikely, but within the realm of possibility.  I mean, if Brock Holt can make the All-Star Game...
