in the last turn through the rotation the sox starting pitchers have allowed 1, 1, 0, 1, and 1 runs respectively.  4 runs total in 5 starts.  straight up nasty.   

oh, and as soon as jed lowrie gets a few more plate appearances he's going to be leading the league in hitting.  don't sleep on this team.

there should be day time baseball on TV everyday of the season

as somebody who doesn't keep to regular 9-5 hours, i really enjoy when there are weekday day games.  it happens a fair amount in the beginning of the year, but after mid may almost all of the games during the week are played at night.  i don't understand why espn didn't start something called "espn day game" a long time ago.  one game televised everyday in the mid afternoon.  it could rotate through every team.  the math works out to just one home game per team every 6 weeks, or 4 games a year.  yeah yeah, i know teams make more money off of night games.  but it wouldn't really matter to teams like boston who sell out all the time anyway, and for crappy teams like pittsburg or san diego it would give them a rare chance to be on national TV.

and for that matter, why doesn't, espn always pick up the coverage for any day games that currently do happen?  it's got to be better for their ratings than the 9th straight hour of sportscenter, right?

ever tried to leave fenway or the garden with a beer?

in the past two days i went to a celts game at the garden and a sox game at fenway, and that reminded me of something that's been bothering me for years.  when the game is over, if you try to take you're beer out of fenway there's armed guards there with tasers to stop you.  well that may be a slight exaggeration, but there are lots of security people who make sure no beer cups make it out the gates.  however, at the garden there is nothing.  literally NOTHING.  i have walked out of the building with a beer many times.  once last year i carried my half full beer down the stairs, out the door, across the street, and waited in line for a few minutes to get into the harp until the door guy there stopped me from bringing it in.  so my question is, how is this possible?  how can one place care so much, and the other not all at?  it blows my mind. 

oh yeah, and i think that new sign outside the garden this year may be the dumbest/ugliest/most ill-fitted sign ever made.  it's only appropriate for the circus or disney on ice.

the celtics, heat, bulls, thunder, and mavs all eke out game 1 wins at home.  the spurs, lakers, and magic get upset.  hmm, it's almost like there is no clear favorite...

also, that was one hell of a game to go to tonight at the new garden.  the alley oop with 37 seconds left was a seriously ballsy play call.  and then after ray hit the go ahead 3, the knicks totally panicked;  coaches running around the sidelines wanting a timeout when they had none.  melo jacking up a ridiculous 3 with 5 seconds left when they only needed 2.  yeah, the building was insane at that moment, but still they looked like a high school JV team.

since april 15 boston is undefeated.  they have a team ERA of 1.00, and a bullpen ERA of 0.00.  saltalamacchia is batting .500.  ellsbury has homered every 5th at bat.  and the starting pitchers are striking out more than a batter an inning.  at this rate they should finish 150-12!

this is the most wide open NBA playoffs in a long time

when the nba playoff start usually there is one clear favorite, sometimes two.  but this year i think there are 5 teams all with pretty equal chances to win it all.  here's my best estimate of each teams title chances:

spurs 16%

celtics 16%

bulls 16%

heat 16%

mavs 7%
thunder 7%
magic 3%
everybody else combined 2%
